| Modelling physical-biological interactions in the early life of fish is becoming an integral part of theoretical and applied marine ecology. A workshop on 'Advancements in modelling physical-biological interactions in fish early-life history' (WKAMF) was held in April 2006 to review recent developments and identify future research directions. Here we provide an overview of the information presented at WKAMF (some of which is published in this Theme Section), discussions that took place at the workshop, and the authors' perspectives as workshop co-Chairs. | A Embrapa, com apoio de seus parceiros, tem avaliado vários modelos de iLPF. É por esta razão que a unidade da empresa, em Rondônia, atua em projeto juntamente com todas as outras unidades da Região Norte. Nos dias 28 e 29 de abril de 2010, no primeiro Workshop sobre iLPF, ocorrido em Vilhena, sul do Estado de Rondônia, a Embrapa Rondônia reuniu os membros participantes do projeto, a fim de discutir as peculiaridades regionais e estreitar relações de trabalho, companheirismo e amizade, sinalizadores de verdadeira Integração. Os resultados são apresentados à sociedade através deste documento, na perspectiva de que mais e melhores frutos sejam colhidos de nossa terra. |

| This paper presents six key issues from the Rethinking Impact: Understanding the complexity of poverty and change Workshop (RIW) held in Cali, Colombia, March 26–28, 2008. The workshop discussed how agricultural and natural-resources research can be more effective in generating solutions for poverty alleviation and improving gender, social inclusion and equity, and how such research can be brought into the mainstream and how its impact can be assessed. A diverse group of over 60 participants (42% women) from 33 organizations (54% CGIAR and 46% non-CGIAR) attended the meeting.
